Dr. James Breaugh received his Ph.D. in Industrial and
Organizational Psychology from Ohio State University in 1977. He holds
a joint faculty appointment at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in
the College of Business Administration and in the Department of
Psychology.
Over the years, Professor Breaugh has conducted considerable
research on the topics of employee recruitment and selection. His
research contributions have resulted in: (a) his being voted to
fellowship status in three professional organizations including the
American Psychological Association, (b) his being appointed to the
editorial boards of three journals and named an Associate Editor of
the top journal in his field, and (c) his serving as Convention
Program Chair for three professional conferences including the Society
for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Conference.
Dr. Breaugh has consulted with such organizations as
Anheuser-Busch, Monsanto, AT&T, Laclede Gas Company, and Visiting
Nurses Association. His consulting work has involved: developing
selection systems, instituting 360-degree feedback programs,
evaluating recruitment strategies, assessing compensation systems, and
validating testing programs.
Dr. Breaugh has on several occasions been involved with litigation
(e.g., working with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as an
expert witness) and arbitration (e.g., defending a Fortune 500 company
against a union charge of age discrimination) projects involving
employment discrimination. These activities have involved testifying
in federal and state courts, conducting adverse impact analyses, and
advising clients about the validity of selection systems.
